Hofstra’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the professional engineering fraternity Theta Tau, and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) – recently hosted the 2nd annual Black Engineers Panel to support the aspirations of students of color interested in pursuing careers in engineering.
“'I think there is not enough introduction at the elementary and middle school grade age of what young girls can be,' says Baptiste, who links the industry’s scant female workforce to a lack of early exposure.
Attendees heard from several agencies including the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC), The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).
